How Self Care and Confidence go Hand in Hand

Think about all the rituals you hold throughout the day. What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? What about before bed? Maybe before you start your work day, you get a drink to have nearby, whether that be water or coffee. These little rituals are self care. They may be so ingrained in your routines that you barely see it as taking time for yourself, but it is!

Now remember a time when for whatever reason you weren’t able to complete a ritual. You decided to skip morning reading time and are now struggling to focus. Or even as simple as forgetting to brush your teeth. Suddenly your entire day is off center. Whether you can acknowledge missing that one event is the source, or something just feels off.

It isn't always daily routines that cause this. We see ourselves at least 5 times throughout the day. In the bathroom mirror, walking past a reflective window, even in the blank screen of your phone. For a lot of people their main source of self confidence is in their appearance. You can be making it to every other maintenance appointment but decide to skip out on doing your eyebrows. All it takes is that growth and suddenly everything feels off.

But you don't deserve to feel bad about yourself. Staying on top of self care even when you think “It won't make a big difference to put it off”, keeps you feeling your best. It takes your focus away from insecurities and back to what really matters.

And the best part is, self care is completely customizable. No one knows you better than you know yourself. There are going to be things that are more and less important to your routine. Some need a haircut every 6 weeks while others don't even think about it for 6 months. And that's okay! As a Cosmetologist I know the ideal times to come back for maintenance and they've been ingrained in my head since I was in school for my license. But the truth is, the only calendar that matters is yours.

So here's my suggestion. If you feel like you've been falling behind, look in the mirror and think about everything that would make you feel better. Haircut, eyebrows, smooth arms and legs, nails done. Next I want you to take a day to feel yourself again. Book an appointment and relax. When you're finished, rebook your next appointment so that even if you need to call and reschedule, you'll know its time for maintenance without getting to the point where you focus on it in the mirror.

You deserve to be confident in yourself. You deserve to feel positive when you look in the mirror. You deserve to be everything you set your mind to; if all you need to be able to focus on that is setting a maintenance routine, then don't put it off any longer!
